A hub for enterprise
At Herts, we partner with organisations of all sizes to drive growth and innovation. Offering tailored workforce training, cutting-edge research collaborations, and access to a diverse pool of talented students and graduates, we ensure that businesses can tap into a wealth of expertise.
With enterprise at our core, Herts supports the growth of the local and regional economy. The University Enterprise Zone facilitates access to funding, specialist business support, and resources for start-ups and innovation, while connecting diverse talent with industry needs.
The University’s entrepreneurial ecosystem ensures that businesses, organisations, and students all have the support they need to succeed and realise their full potential. More than 150 regional employers have strengthened their workforce through graduate placements, professional development, and apprenticeships, while 226 student and graduate start-ups have been launched in the past three years. Through knowledge exchange, we have provided businesses with over £1.7 million worth of expertise and support, contributing significantly to local and regional economic growth.
Life at Herts
Our campuses, College Lane and de Havilland, provide a vibrant, modern environment for academic and personal development. From industry-standard labs and creative studios to healthcare simulation centres, the facilities are designed to meet the needs of every discipline. Students enjoy secure, affordable accommodation, an active campus life and a dynamic Students’ Union.
Herts is proud to attract such a diverse community. 65.9% of our students and 23.2% of our staff come from ethnically diverse communities (above the sector average of 14.3%), and 9.5% of our staff and 10.4% of our students have declared a disability. We have a vibrant LGBTQ+ community and are working hard to improve gender and ethnicity pay gaps and to ultimately eliminate the Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic awarding gap for students.
Support looks different for all students at Herts, and we aim to help in a way that suits everyone. Gabriel Monteiro tells us about life on campus with a disability. He said: “Being disabled is always a challenging experience, it's about accepting yourself and your limitations and that is a lot easier when you have people that support you. No matter who you are or where you come from, there is something here for you and people you can share experiences with.”
Strategic plan 2025-2030
Our five-year ambition is to grow our reach and reputation regionally, nationally and globally as a modern, dynamic and enterprising university; experts at driving greater opportunities and outcomes for all, through our education, research and enterprise activity. We aim to bring the best of Hertfordshire together, collaborating to create better ideas, opportunities and outcomes that make an impact.
